The Nectar of the gods

the necktar of the gods
...not the goddesses, 'cause us women suck. heh. But I digress. Already.
I do my best thinking when I'm 2/3 into a bottle of Bier. And on this sunny, warm, mosquito-free afternoon (this same afternoon that we celebrate 13 years marriage) I've decided that all my angst is from me trying to conform. I'm trying so desparately hard to fit into the suburban housewife mode. I need one, 4 bedroom house, 2.5 kids, the manicured lawn, spotless house with a place to put all the bulk food I buy from Sam's club.

That's it. I'm done with the craziness. And, as I mention it to Kurt, he says ever so confidently... "I know." Ah, the wisdom in that man. And how he has the patience to sit by and watch me, 10 years his junior, make the same mistakes or entertain the same thoughts he's already wrestled with.... sigh.... patience. Incredible. He tells me, that's why I married him. He was my one hope. My ticket out of the madness the sameness as everyone else. Deep down I knew he was the one, the best thing that happened to me.

13 years.... that's a long time, and yet, of course the years will just keep rollin' on. I wouldn't want to be with anyone else. I almost typed, "I can't imagine....." But, of course I can. I always thought I'd be married to a suit. Someone just like every suit of a man. Someone who goes to the office 9-5, someone who takes the business trips, and we'd be just like everyone else.... yuk. Where's the fun in that??! And, did I mention how amazing it was to me when walking in to the restuarant Friday evening with the kids to meet him?? There he was sitting at the table, wearing his brand new glasses..... He picked them out with me in mind.... they're those lovely "European" style frames that I find so sexy!!! He did it for me!!! Damn, I'm a lucky girl! =)
So, I have an unconventional place to live and a wacky, unconventional guy to share it with! I wouldn't want it any other way.

And so this afternoon, sitting out here sipping my Bier, music playing in the background, the lightbulb finally appeared over my head.... I'm not going to be like the other suburban hausfraus. Let them all envy me!

Here we were.... waaay back on May 30, 1992.

on another note.... tomorrow I'm working, and I'm almost finished with the substitute, school nursing work. Friday will be my last day! Hooray!

May is truly the best month here in Cowtown

Another great week 'round here, and the upcoming long, holiday weekend should also prove to be a nice one! Sunshine, warm spring breezes blowing around the scents of my favorite flowers that are all in bloom this month and no mosquitos....!

This photo just taken a moment ago....

and an upclose of these marvelous flowers that bloom by the thousands on all these thorny trees that are so prolific up here in cowtown! Their syrupy sweet scent fill the air all around the yard and even the neighborhood this time of year! It is such a strong perfume, it's wonderful!! I've even taken a few snippings for inside my house too!

Here's a magazine that caught my eye in the check-out line at Meijers....

every article on the cover interested me... so I bought it. Their $12 yearly subscription also appeals to the stingy side of me... so I think I just may sign up for a year's subscription!

Ok, back to housework I go. And hey, since Monday is Kurt's and my 13th wedding anniversary, we should all take off Monday! Let's call it a holiday! Oh, wait, someone already did..... heh.

a gorgeous weekend wrap-up

This weekend was all ours to enjoy in the garden! The weather cooperated, so we dug in, litterally, and fixed up a brand new, zen rock garden area alongside the newly cleaned and running stream complete with, oh, a couple hundred rocks that we moved! The other side of the stream is full of huge Hostas, which I intend to break up and move to the hill next to the zen rock garden this week! We did so much weeding and moving of rocks that my legs and lower back were screaming this morning when I attempted to get out of bed... ug. I should have stretched them out a bit after those evening soaks in the hottub.... but, you know, old age and such.... I tend to forget things.... heh.

Sunday evening was a perfect time to sit on the deck for dinner as we enjoyed the splash of the waterfall, the dog running about and the distant shouts and giggles of children playing! Sounds so idyllic, eh?! Ah and it is.... for another 2 weeks.... then the mosquitos will take over our lovely yard and decks.....

Oh the busy-ness

And much of it is with the business! I'm hoping this is the chaos of the transfer.... I have to not only keep track of what is his inventory that we now have, separate from our inventory that I'm going to purchase today in Chicago. That, and running ads, fielding questions from employees... one that decided to call Kurt at 9:05pm and would have talked all night. I guess we did say call anytime with questions or just if you want to talk.... We really need to get a phone with caller ID upstairs in the bedroom! ha! So, I'm hoping the business will not always be this crazy/chaotic or seem to take over our weekends and free hours! Right?!! Tell me it won't always be like this!! hahahaha
In other news... Wednesday's test night was a huge success! Picture the room with the testing students, all the parents, add in just about all the black belt judges and now stick in the newspaper reporter and 2 newspaper photographers! Man, it was jammed and cameras were flashing on little K and the other black belt candidate throughout the hourlong testing! In the end, since the camera crews were there..... Mr. Hong decided to run down the judges and have them give their vote of pass for the papers! They all said that our little guy and the other passed! Ah, what excitement! The next morning the boys' faces were on the front page of the biggest, local paper! Everyone at school said they saw little K, some kids brought in the article that their moms had cut out, I got several phone calls from friends of ours 3 towns to the south of us, saying they had seen the paper!! Wow! Of course, being the doting mom, I bought 10 papers! I have to mail them out to grandparents, and aunts and uncles ya know!!
Alright, time to get on my way to Chicago.....

Back in the saddle this monday morning

Today is a big marketing push! I'm working on flyers and newspaper ads for our upcoming summer programs! I'm also tooting our own horn this morning getting 2 different papers lined up to come to our promotion test this Wednesday as our 2 youngest karate students receive their black belts! Of course I'm proud, as one of those kids is my very own little K-Wolfgang!! Woot!

So, yup, I have already the sports editor lined up to come to the testing complete with cameras! Now, I'm off to continue the creative process and chase down some more news leads!

Oh, and why the heck did they take off my International News channel?? Gah, now all I have is the US news spin.... oh and Dubbya's drawl to endure.... ack.

could it be, really working?

sigh... I don't know enough to install a blog, or MT program on my site, but I can tweak this program on my server via ftp.

basically, this is just another test

Our baby

Awww, our big ol' watch doggie is just a big lapdog, snuggler in reality!

Can you believe I was browsing the puppies up for adoption at the local shelter?? Oh yes! And, I found a cute 2 year old German Shepherd mix named Tucker. They said he's a sweet boy who got lost from its owner. I'd adopt him in a moment. But, another adoption will have to wait until August when we're back from vacation!

Ohhh! Did I mention yet where we're going?! No?! Heh heh... well, then I'll tell it now!

We're flying to London on July 12th. Our friends from Wales will arrive at Heathrow airport with the 'big van' we rented to pick us up and drive us back to the Observatory, (that's their home) in Wales!!! How cool is that going to be?! Those crazy Brits.... driving on the wrong side of the road, having a spot of tea, sorting out their shedules (no that's not a typo... we 'skedule', the Brits, they 'shedule') and then don't forget enjoying gin & t's in the evening!!! We're thinking of a weekend roadtrip to Scotland as well! Everyone has to try Haggis once in their lifetime, right?!! hahahah Of course, we'll also have to visit Stonehenge, the local pubs, perhaps see Buckingham palace and pubs, order fish n' chips or bangers and mash. Oh, and did I mention a stop in at all the local pubs?! ;) Wooohooo. Two weeks across the pond with good friends, what a summer it will be!

Shall we try it here?

Interesting..... I thought I'd give this a try.... looks cool. Lots of bells and whistles to play around with. I'll see how it goes.
